VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 11
by Gibular_Bob |

Message from the VRML:

Welcome to the final weekly briefing of season 2! Eleven incredibly intense weeks of matches have all led up to this moment, and the teams are eagerly preparing for the upcoming post season starting in just a few days! Keep reading for a recap of standings, roster changes, opinions from our top teams, and a very special surprise for our final send-off here in season 2!

Week Eleven Standings:

To kick things off, let’s take a look at where each of the top teams finished this season:

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Eternity

4th: Fusion

5th: Ignite

Europe (EU):

1st: AESIR EU

2nd: ivi

3rd: Immortality

4th: Ragnarok

5th: Cheeki Breachi

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: 7DS

3rd: Legion Praetorian

Finally, after weeks of brutal battles, these teams have cemented themselves as the best of the best in their respective region. Two huge shout outs are in order for both AESIR and Hybrid, as they were the only two teams to have played all eleven weeks and remained undefeated! AESIR EU also stands atop the European standings with a clean 7-0 record, falling just four games short of a true undefeated season. Either way, these are monumental feats of teamwork and skill that demonstrate why these teams are at the tops of their leaderboards. With the post season notorious for delivering unexpected and shocking outcomes, one must ask the question: will these teams remain undefeated, or will they fall short of the finish line? As the answer has been on many occasions, only time will tell…

Roster Report:

Now for the final roster report of the season! What’s amazing is that even though there is a roster lock in effect, there are still plenty of dramatic moves that happen every week in the Breacher VRML. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest changes that occurred this week:

NA:

Venom —> (Left Ground Zer0)

bananaman —> (Left Vanguard)

7ZK —> (Left OneUnit)

DoctorJimmy —> (Left Lumina)

Kiwi —> (Left Sane)

Swift —> (Left AESIR)

AscendedDeath —> (Pantheon)

EU:

hazel —> (Left Immortality)

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week eleven match/matches?
  • Reflect on this season. Are you happy with where you finished? Was there a week that could have gone better?

NA:

AESIR- Plunge: “WE ARE HYPED FOR THE FINALS! Yes, we are very happy with a technically undefeated season, [though] we probably could've done better with the F3 vs Aesir match.”

Eternity- Juice: “We are feeling super confident for what is to come! We have been working on coordination/chemistry, and we are becoming much stronger than before. We are very happy where we finished, but we’re [not] stopping here. We continue the grind!”

EU:

AESIR EU- GOOBLIN: “After this week, we've bagged a 7-0 W/L and 1st place, so we're extremely confident for this season. We're ready to dominate finals and take home the W. As of where we finished, we've certainly had our ups and downs, drama, all the fun stuff, but the fact we've managed to pull through all of it has really shown us that we're 10 times stronger than people think.”

ivi- beaver: “This week has been great. Like usual, we’re learning from our mistakes and improving, not only in game, but outside of game too. We’ve been getting at least 1% better every single day, [and] I’m proud of my boys. This season couldn’t have gone better. I think we had high expectations at the start, which we didn’t really achieve understandably. But to conclude the season, we know the job at hand. No fake confidence.”

Immortality- XavDaSlav: “As a team we are all very happy. For a team starting half way through this season, 3rd place is amazing- beating teams that have been here for multiple seasons. We are all confident and ready for finals. We only lost to 2 teams this season and it is the 1st and 2nd place. We have no worries about this though, just gotta put a bit more effort against those teams, but we have a few tricks up our sleeves. There were probably a few weeks that could have gone better. However, we all have our bad days, and the teams we played did amazing. Good luck in the finals everyone. ETERNAL ESPORTS ON TOP!”

Ragnarok- Mark: “They were okay, we are chilling and working on some strategies after looking over the match. It is what it is. We could have landed [in the] top 3 had we tried harder, but 4th will do fine I suppose. Could have done better in our AESIR EU and Immortality games, but at the end of the day we didn't win because we were worse that time. Keep pushing.”

APAC:

7DS- McMuffinator: “Only week we could've done better was I believe our first week back against Hybrid. We didn't mind where we finished as long as we qualified for playoffs.”

Legion Praetorian- Gen0cyde: “Legion as always is just happy to be playing and enjoying the company of friends. We do feel a bit tired and looking forward to [the] off season. Yes, Legion is [a] clan built on having fun first regardless of how we do. The fact that we are in 3rd is bonus points for us. In the next season, I think we are going to be focusing on our strengths and weeding out impulse attacks which generally get us killed. Timed and planned strategies work best.”

Voices from the Challengers:

For our final weekly briefing of the season, we wanted to hear from everyone, not just the top five teams! So additionally, we asked all of the captains competing in the challenger cup the following questions:

  1. Are you ready for the challenger cup this Saturday?

-Optional: How have you been preparing for the challenger cup?

-Optional: Are there any specific teams you're worried about?

RE.START- ShimiMarui: “We're making sure we're 100% ready for [the] Challenger Cup. We've been working on and testing new strats to keep in our back pocket for CC and finals. We've also been scrimming heavily this week with our friends in the top 5 to ensure we're back on our A game. I'm really looking forward to playing Ground Zero, especially in the CC finals. They're always a great team to play and give us a good challenge.”

Spectral- Flare: “Of course we’re ready for it. We’re sad that we came up a couple of places short of 7th, but we’re ready for the Challenger Cup. We have some new unseen plays that we’ve worked on and think will really shake up the teams we have to go against. The only team we really have to watch out for is RE.START. We can handle the rest.”

Ground Zer0- TaNkY: “Hell yeah! We are hyped and looking forward to showing everyone what Ground Zer0 can do! We have been playing a lot of weekly scrims against some of the top NA teams since we created the team. We have recently scrimmed against Formula 3, RE.START, ASP3CT, and Eternity, and we did better than we expected, considering we are a new roster still getting used to playing together. I would not say [we’re] worried about [a specific team], but I can definitely see RE.START, Spectral, and us, of course, as the main contenders for the challengers cup. We have scrimmed both of them a lot in the past, so I think we have a good chance to win.”

Veni! Vidi! Vici!- Phase: “Without a doubt, We're ready for the challenger cup this Saturday! Are you ready for us? Our team has been preparing by scrimming top teams, using competitive que to go over plays and get coordination down, vod reviewing, and [holding] discord brainstorm sessions. I wouldn't say we are worried, more like there are two teams that are gonna be good competition- that'd be Re.Start and Ground Zero.”

Guardians- Ruelas504: “I feel that I am ready for the upcoming cup as well as the team. We’d like to get some more notable teams to play against and sharpen our skills. Just glad to participate this season. Been trying out a lot of unconventional tactics to gain an edge as far as we can push it. No team in particular [concerns us], but it would suck to have to go against Vanguard. Win or lose, it's bittersweet, though no matter what, we will be cheering our boys on.”

Oblivious- SYRUP: “You know what? I gotta give major props to my team for how much they've stepped up this season. Honestly, I didn't think we'd climb so high in the standings, but here we are. To answer your question, yeah, we're ready as we'll ever be. Sure, we might be seen as the underdogs, but hey, we're still here to put on a good show.”

VEX- GloomyMelanie: “We have some tough competition, but I’m sure we’ll come out victorious! We’re actually just figuring out ways to build our bonds together, because that is the true root of how a team will play. We’ve seen a lot of teams go above us and below. One of the main teams that has helped us a lot is RE.START, so they’ll be our main worry.”

Vanguard- Rise Optimal: “Very excited this season. We've hit the grind on our self-awareness and [have been] going back to the basics of Breachers, [like] going over POVs to find our weak spots and build that muscle memory. RE.START has always been the team to beat for us.”

SunsetRavens- JediMilo: “We’re very excited to be playing in the challenger cup, and we’ve been scrimming for a good bit to practice for the matchups. Looking at our competition, I’m certain [that] we can come out on top, but I’m sure teams like Nexus will give us a fair shake. Very excited to play.”

OneUnit- ItzOce: “Well yes, we are ready for the challenger cup! We enjoy the competition and experience of playing in VRML. The way we get prepared for our upcoming matches is by practicing 5 days a week and making strategies to help us win. Currently, we are not worried about any teams out there, as all it takes is a little teamwork and understanding of your enemy to help secure the win.”

DODO REBORN- Bird: “I would definitely say we are as ready as can be. We have been doing alot of scrims and team practices to get ready for [the] CC. We are worried about most of them, but I'm sure we can knock them out [of] the park.”

REKT- Kirbydog: “I believe that we are prepared properly for the CC. We have been doing a number of scrims- of which there [have been] downfalls and upsides, however, I believe that they help us improve either way. We in particular are keeping an eye on RE.START- as we know they have had a good, tried and true roster of players, as well as OutLaw due to their more recent representations in games. Aside from that, we are confident that we will perform quite well! Good luck to all competitors this weekend!”

Nexus- Merca: “Ready as we'll ever be. Nexus never got to finish in season one, and I can guarantee we would have won it. That being said, the game is a different beast this season. We're going into it a little bit more optimistic, as confidence is always key. [The] only team I can see giving us any issues is Sunset Ravens, but we'll see.”

Shinigamis- AshVR: “Honestly I’m not too sure. This season was terrible for us but, I think we’re overdue for a win. My team and I are preparing by strengthening our skills and communication as well as our bonds. I’m not really worried about any teams, only because I know my team better than anyone else.”

Mafia- StunadV32: “I feel that my team is going into this season's CC with confidence and revenge. Last season we came up short, but this season will definitely be different! My team has been 5 stacking [in] ranked, and we all have hit high plat/diamond, except for Illuminati (he is stuck in silver, sorry man). We don’t worry about the teams we are facing, all we worry about is if we are going to show up and perform!”

VRTX- CONE: “Yes we are ready. My team and I have been hard at work making sure we can [put on] our best faces at the Challenger Cup. To prepare for the Challenger Cup, we have put ourselves through various stages of training, such as scrims against teams who are higher than us, as we feel this helps us improve. [We are] worried about Nexus and SunsetRavens.”

WarDogs- Alex Abreu: “We have a team that is eager to start the tournament, [and] we are also eager to know who will be our first opponent [so we can] face them in the best way we know and that we have practiced. We have determination and heart to win this Challenger Cup. We really want to be finalists!”

Blue.x- Chris.x: “It's this Saturday?”

Team Juice ES- Boshk138: “Team juice has been getting ready for the Challenger Cup for the last few weeks, since we had decided we would make sure we would qualify. We ended up ranked 15th, which is lower than we had hoped, but it just means we'll be going in as the underdogs- something we're used to. We're more than ready to go in there on Saturday and prove ourselves as a great team. We've been preparing how we would any normal match: playing scrims to practice, [as well as] fine tuning our strategies and skills. As far as the other teams go, I wouldn't say we're worried, as I know [that] if we play our best, we can come out on top of them. We look forward to going out on Saturday and giving the people some good games to watch!”

Taurus United- Captain Rogers: “I’d say we’re ready as we will ever be. Our team has been “through the ringer” this season, but we’re still gonna give it our all! We’ve definitely been preparing, constantly scrimming, and reworking plays in order to achieve the synergy we need to contend with the higher teams. Even if we lose, it’s a learning experience. Losing tells you what you need to improve [on], which I'd argue makes losing more valuable than winning.”

Stormwatch- Soundwave: “We are absolutely ready. We’re really excited to be able to show off how we’ve improved this season, and it’ll be a great sendoff for us! We have been doing a lot of comp stacking and running plays in lobbies to prepare, [and] it works really well. Honestly we aren’t really worried. We’re just looking to have a great time playing for one last time this season!”

XEPHYR- VEKZ: “Yes! We are ready and excited! We've had our ups and downs, but the team plans on practicing as much as we can before CC. Being worried about the success of other teams makes us weak. We plan on winning this whole thing!”

Soap Dispensers- Balov: “Yes, we are ready!”

SCYTHE- Emmettiscool: “I’m pretty sure I’m ready, or at least I hope I am. I’ve been getting my players and myself ready by playing in the in-game competitive mode. I’m worried about Formula 3. I feel like they could have won the championship last time.”

Thanks for Reading! -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Well, we’re finally here: the last article of season 2. It certainly feels bittersweet, as while I’m glad to have less work on my plate, writing these articles each week has not only been fun, but also quite informative and fulfilling for myself as well. Now I don’t have a lot of space this week, as this article is considerably longer than any others I’ve done this season, but I have some ‘thank yous’ that are due before I wrap up.

First off, big thanks to my boss and fellow caster NightFiree for approving the production of and promoting all of these articles all throughout the season. I’ve never met a harder working, more determined caster than him, and I appreciate all he’s done for me, and the VRML.

Second, big thanks to Frosty, who edited and published the articles each week before I could do it myself. It was thanks to him I was able to consistently upload each week, and I am very thankful for all of his help.

Third, I’d like to thank all of the captains and teams who responded to my questions when they could. The ‘From the Teams’ segment was very important to me, and it was because of those captains that I was able to keep that segment going each week. I wish them all the best in their upcoming matches.

And finally, I’d like to thank everyone who read my articles. When I first started writing, there was a bit of doubt in my mind that anyone would even read these. It was moments like people asking when the next article would drop, or complimenting how good of a read they were, that validated all of the nights I spent up until 2:00 A.M. writing them! I thank you all for your continued support, and I look forward to writing these again when season 3 starts! Until then, thanks again for reading, and I’ll see you next time!

Wrapping up Week Eleven:

With all of the weekly action out of the way, it’s once again time to say goodbye! Season 2 gave us the high highs and the low lows, with some teams rising above all others to claim the top spots on the leaderboard, and other teams crashing and collapsing before reaching their true potential. Despite the dramatic ups and downs, the teams and players still persevered through it all, even as they approach the post season. Who will stand above all of the others as the winners of the EU and APAC regions? Who will be our NA finalists for VRML Con 2024? Will ShimiMarui ever give someone the tryout role? One thing is for sure: the best is still yet to come, so stay tuned into our YouTube channel so you don’t miss out on the action! Remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you in season 3!

VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 10
by Gibular_Bob |

Message from the VRML:

Welcome to week ten, the penultimate week of the season 2 calendar, and our weekly articles together! With just one week left now until the start of post season, the top teams are fiercely battling for the number one spot. On the other side of the coin, however, our lower ranked teams are gearing up for the challenger cup, the first round of our playoffs to determine the final team to compete in the round 2 closed qualifiers. With all this in mind, the pressure to perform well continues to mount heading into week eleven. Who will stand above the rest and prove they have what it takes to shoot for the number one spot? Find out all this and more by reading below!

Week Ten Standings:

For the second to last time this season, let’s take a look at the top teams in each region of the league!

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Eternity

4th: Fusion

5th: Formula 3

Europe (EU):

1st: AESIR EU

2nd: ivi

3rd: Ragnarok

4th: Immortality

5th: Cheeki Breachi

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: 7DS

3rd: Legion Praetorian

You may notice only a few small changes to the standings this week. It’s important to note that Formula 3, AESIR, ASP3CT, and Fusion did not play this week due to some postponements. Both the EU and APAC regions also didn’t receive much of a change this week either, with Cheeki Breachi replacing Nyffin and Legion Praetorian kicking Pavlov’s Dogs out of the top three, marking the first change to the APAC standings in four weeks. The biggest and most intense matches will occur in week eleven, with the final week of the season preventing the use of seasonal postponements. By the end of next week, the top seven teams will be decided, and they will move on to face each other in the closed qualifiers during round 2 of our post season. It goes without saying that there is quite a bit of drive to skip the CC for these master teams, so they will no doubt be putting in their best efforts to stay ahead of each other!

Roster Report:

Due to the roster lock, the last two roster reports will be very short, as players can only leave teams at the moment. Nevertheless, here are some of the biggest changes that happened in week ten:

NA:

RJ —> (Left Arcane)

FunkyMonkey (Left Arcane)

<null> —> (Left Arcane)

W41K3R —> (Left Arcane)

Olympus —> Disbands

EU:

leon —> (Left Formula 3 EU)

viledot —> (Left Nexus)

Exit —> Disbands

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week ten match/matches?
  • Does your team prefer an aggressive fast-paced playstyle, or a slow and methodical approach? Why?

NA:

AESIR- Plunge: “We are feeling ready for the last weeks of the season and preparing ourselves for quarter/semi finals. We play more aggressively because it fits the players on the team. If you have players and they play slow, then play slow so you can get the best out of the team.”

ASP3CT- iBlameMyAim: “Due to scheduling constraints, our team was unable to compete this week in light of F3's push to next week. Our gameplay style prioritizes versatility and aggressiveness to keep opponents guessing and prevent predictability, ensuring that we maintain a competitive edge and adapt to various team dynamics effectively.”

Formula 3- Angel: “I take pride in the adaptability of my team. We have an excellent (and) aggressive squad, but some teams we face require a little more finesse that’ll lead to slower methods in some of the rounds. However, it’s always more fun to run and gun because it really shows your team’s true skill when they’re allowed to pummel through any defense with brute force.”

EU:

ivi- beaver: “After week 10 we have a lot of confidence moving towards finals. All in all the match vs Ragnarok was great, and we're back to the level we used to be in pre-season. We always opt for a slower, more controlling pace as it's more consistent than chucking nades into a site and relying on aim to win rounds. It may work in scrims, but I guess we will see when finals roll around as finals is the only thing that matters.”

APAC:

Legion Praetorian- Gen0cyde: “Legion has always been a team that is just about having fun, win or lose. What I am mostly proud of is the fact that the team has found laughter and fun in games we knew we weren't going to win. In games where we knew it was going to be easy, we decided to challenge ourselves with extra eco rounds or do shotguns-only rounds. We find the fun in the game regardless of who we are playing. We can do both (playstyles). It depends on who we are playing against and what we have done before. We don't stick to one method for too long, or else it becomes easy to predict us.”

The Penultimate Week -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

It’s hard to believe that we’re already finishing week ten and starting the final week of the season. With a distinct lack of activity from the top NA teams, everything will culminate in week eleven, which will probably be the most action-packed week we’ve had this season. With so much on the line, and so many matches to be played, you really have to wonder what the mental game is like for some of these frontrunners. Are they coping well with the added stress and pressure? I certainly hope so.

Admittedly, one of the biggest disappointments I think we saw this week was Olympus disbanding. What was once a top tier team (with a couple of appearances in these articles, I might add) with the potential to make a serious run has unfortunately fizzled out so close to the finish line. The sudden disband was quite jarring, and it made me recall some of the other top teams that collapsed this season. Wicked, Havoc, Indomitable, Infinity, and now Olympus, just to name a few, all showed a lot of promise. That said, it is in the nature of the Breachers VRML for teams to die out and players to leave. It’s not all so depressing though, as new players arrive and new teams form, the cycle continues with spectators like myself watching everything play out, and there’s a certain beauty to that.

Regardless, we are now approaching the finale of season 2. At this point, the teams must be ready for what’s to come. They’ve had an entire season to hone their skills, and the upcoming post season will be the true test of how much they’ve grown. We are now in a time where mastery, not just as an individual player, but as a team, is demanded to reap the spoils of the competition. As we approach the final week, with the most challenging battles still yet to come, I implore you all to take one final look at your abilities, and reflect upon any changes you need to make to improve. Remember- it’s never too late to learn a few more tricks.

Wrapping up Week Ten:

Once again, it’s time to wrap things up. Week ten delivered another round of great matches, and once again reminded that there is never a dull moment here in the Breachers VRML. With that said, we wish all of the teams good luck in their final week of season 2! Next week will be ripe with discussion of teams, matches and post season, so stay tuned for the next article, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel so as to not miss any of the action! Remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you next week for our final seasonal briefing!

VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 9
by Gibular_Bob |

Message from the VRML:

Welcome to week nine of the Breachers VRML season 2! With just two weeks left until the post season, and the roster/challenge lock in place starting week ten, you can really start to feel all of the action approaching its climax! While we wait for the end of the season though, let’s take a look at the standings, roster report, and opinions from our casters! All this and more coming up below…

Week Nine Standings:

Before we start, let’s remind ourselves of the top teams in each region:

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Fusion

4th: Eternity

5th: Formula 3

Europe (EU):

1st: AESIR EU

2nd: ivi

3rd: Ragnarok

4th: Immortality

5th: Nyffin

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: 7DS

3rd: Pavlov’s Dogs

Surprisingly, there have been very few big changes in our top teams. Hybrid still stands atop the APAC leaderboard, with 7DS and Hybrid once again bringing up the second and third spots respectively. The only EU change has been Nyffin swapping places with Cheeki Breachi, so it will be interesting to see if CHBR can once again break back into the top 5. NA, on the other hand, saw no new entries into their leaderboard, but Fusion swapped places with Formula 3 after a massive upset game that Fusion emerged the winner from. With just a few weeks left until post season, opportunities for high seeding placements in the closed qualifiers are running out. Will the top teams of NA, EU, and APAC be able to maintain their dominance? Only time will tell…

Roster Report:

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week nine match/matches?
  • As we approach the end of the season, who do you think will be the strongest opposition to your team?

NA:

AESIR- Plunge: “We are feeling pretty good waiting for the finals to start. As of right now I would say Eternity, F3, and ASP3CT are probably our biggest competition, but we are still taking every game we play super seriously no matter the team.”

ASP3CT- iBlameMyAim: “Following a compelling showdown against Ignite, our team delivered a commendable performance marked by resilience and skill. As we maintain our confidence and positive momentum, we acknowledge AESIR as formidable adversaries, presenting a significant challenge that pushes us to our limits. Anticipating a future encounter with them, we aspire to continually elevate our gameplay and strive for success in upcoming competitions.”

Formula 3- Angel: “After week nine of matches, we are definitely in the dumps. We lost against Fusion due to some last minute hiccups availability wise, but we are eager to bring it back in week 10. With the post season drawing near, our main competition is AESIR still, but I'm eager to see more teams pop up as I heard a lot of them have gotten good last minute pickups due to the roster lock.”

EU:

AESIR EU- GOOBLIN: “This week's been really slow with Cheeki Breachi postponing our match to this week, however some interesting things have happened the last couple days. Nexus has made a 3rd appearance with a new roster, and a tonne of players in and out of VRML got banned for cheats (hilarious by the way). I'm really looking forward to the end of the season with AESIR, and we plan on winning it too. Our strongest opposition would either be ivi or Ragnarok in my opinion. Ragnarok is certainly a strong team, and gives us more of a challenge than we bargain for usually. ivi we aren't too worried about, since they just buy Vezins and Nades, but still a good challenge. Nonetheless, we're looking forward to playing them all again in finals.”

ivi- Beaver: “After week nine we feel confident, got more depth to our map pool. Been working hard recently. Our biggest opposition is definitely team Immortality. I think they have the players to perform at a high level in high pressure situations. However, we will see…”

Immortality- XavDaSlav: “After week 9 we are still feeling confident. We’ve had a lot of rocky things happen to us this week, but we won't let it phase us. Our plan is to win and only to win. No matter what happens (to) us as a team, (we) will overcome it and do better. We’re not happy with how this (week) went but we have learned a lot from it and going into the next week, you’ll see us do better and you will see us back at the top. I think going into the end of the season and into finals AESIR EU are our biggest threat. We have scrimmed them a lot and played them once, and we know that they are a hard team to beat, but we will overcome that and we will try our hardest to win. They’re not an unbeatable team, just a really strong one.”

APAC:

7DS- McMuffinator: “Our team is happy with another win this week. Our strongest opponents are Hybrid, they constantly give us a good challenge and we'll need our best players to face them in the post season.”

The Beginning of the End -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

We’re finally here! Week nine is what could be considered the final “normal” week of the season, as weeks ten and eleven will be under the roster/challenge lock. When writing out this week’s roster report, I wanted to go a bit overboard since this will be the last big report of the season. It feels like I just started writing these articles a week ago, and now here we are, approaching the end of what has been a wild season 2. But enough reminiscing, let’s get into the meat of today’s discussion.

Now I have to admit, I was a bit shocked to see Formula 3 lose to Fusion. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t doubt that Fusion was a skilled team for a second -I don’t think anybody did- but F3 was such a dominant team that skill-checked AESIR in their matchup last week. Angel said earlier that he and his team were down in the dumps, and I don’t blame them. This loss was a serious setback for this team, and it will take some effort to climb back up to where they were before. Perhaps they’ll find some success this week against ASP3CT? One thing’s for sure, it will be very close. I’m also curious to see how Fusion will continue to rise in power. They were matched against AESIR for week ten, so we’ll see if they can put in some damage against the unstoppable NA titan. Either way, I think it will be a blast to watch everything unfold as a caster!

Real quick, I wanted to touch on our EU side of operations for a bit. We had a very unexpected reappearance of Nexus this week! For those of you who might not have been keeping up with the EU region lore so far, Nexus was one of the teams to beat earlier in the season. We frequently heard from them here too, in both our standings recaps and team interviews. Will this restructuring keep the team afloat this time? Will the new roster make as much of an impact as the original? These are a few of the questions I began asking myself as I documented their roster changes. Either way, the EU has had some very interesting developments and matches this season, and I’m excited to see where everything goes in the coming weeks!

Wrapping up Week Nine:

It’s time to once again bring this weekly recap to a close! Season 2 of the Breachers VRML has been full of action so far, and we still have plenty of intense battles left to watch (make sure to tune into our YouTube channel so you don’t miss any of them)! Of course, we wish all of our players and teams luck as we head into week ten, and we hope you’ll all have fun in your pursuit of the number one spot! Remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you next week!

VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 8
by Gibular_Bob |

Message from the VRML:

Welcome everyone to week eight of Breachers VRML season 2! With just two weeks away from roster lock, the pressure is on for the team to make an impact. This week delivered exciting matches and some very interesting roster changes. With the season moving ever-closer to its climax, who will stand out apart from the rest of the crowd? Find out all this and more by reading below!

Week Seven Standings:

Before we dive into  the action this week, let’s reacquaint ourselves with the top teams in each region:

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Formula 3

4th: Eternity

5th: Fusion

Europe (EU):

1st: AESIR EU

2nd: ivi

3rd: Ragnarok

4th: Immortality

5th: Cheeki Breachi

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: 7DS

3rd: Pavlov’s Dogs

Marking their return to the top spots in the Breachers VRML are Eternity and the highly anticipated Formula 3. An extremely close game between F3 and AESIR turned into yet another triple 6 finish! What once seemed like a rarity has happened quite a few times now in season 2! AESIR EU continues to stand atop the EU standings, with the Revolt-RVL, now Immortality, bringing up fourth place. Meanwhile, Ragnarok and ivi remain ever-determined to keep their spots at the top of the leaderboard. Amazingly, the APAC top three haven’t undergone any changes since last week, with 7DS clawing their way up to take the throne from Hybrid. Will the season 1 champions usurp Hybrid? We’ll find out in the coming weeks!

Roster Report:

Week eight marks the two week point before the roster lock, meaning teams will no longer be able to add new players until the roster lock is lifted after the end of the postseason! Make sure you make your moves sooner rather than later! In the meantime, let’s take a look at some of the biggest changes we saw in week eight:

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week eight match/matches?
  • How important is utility to your team in the current meta of Breachers? Is it a better idea to purchase weapons or utility when saving in a league match?

NA:

AESIR- Plunge: “Feeling awesome sauce! (It’s better to buy) utility. If we are saving, then breaching foam and nades are (the) most used (utility).”

ASP3CT- RipTheCord: “We continue to maintain a strong team cohesion, emphasizing the paramount significance of mental training to ensure unwavering focus throughout the game. In situations where we secure a lead by a round or two, considering the acquisition of Vezin could be a strategic option. However In the given scenario, prioritizing utility over purchasing rifles is recommended. Allocating resources towards utility first, followed by considering other acquisitions, has shown to significantly enhance the team's performance, particularly in terms of breaching strategies. This approach has demonstrated a near-perfect success rate, underlining the vital role utility plays in the proficiency of breachers. Strategically deploying utility, based on precise timing and placement, significantly impacts the outcome of each round, potentially determining victory or defeat.”

Formula 3- Angel: “To be completely honest, week 8 didn’t go perfect but it also didn’t go bad for us. We were initially hoping to take a win out of this week, however things happen. We had a pretty bad game selling a 6-0 lead on AESIR especially, but we’re immediately getting back into it and learning from all of our mistakes. As for the current meta for util with our guys, we do our best to prioritize essentials on offense such as a drone, breaching foam, plus a grenade if possible. As for defense, we do our best to get grenades and trip-mines to help give damage to the opposing team. Other utility is extremely strong, but we do just fine without it so we don’t stress too much about it. When saving, I believe it’s more important to make sure you can get those key utilities (grenades, trip-mines, breaching foam, drones) first before getting your primary gun. My “minimum next round” feature tends to read 3300 so that I have the 3100 for vezin and an extra 200 for util.”

Eternity- Juice: “We are feeling really great actually. Past couple weeks we’ve had some hiccups with availability and staying consistent. The game last week (we had) massive technical difficulties, (but) we still came out on top. (It) depends on the situation or the score of the game, but I would say utility (is a better buy than weapons).”

EU:

AESIR EU- GOOBLIN: “We're feeling very confident after this week. We all know who's winning this season, and we're keeping this mindset no matter what happens. We're going to win, and we're going to keep improving as we grow as a team. Utility is very important on save rounds. Buying the essentials whilst being low on economy is what wins the 1's vs vezins, nades, smokes, etc. Jespers may be small, but a lot stronger combined with good util usage.”

ivi- Beaver: “Week eight, EU is slowly turning into NA 2.0. Had another tier 1 team rebrand to be associated with America. In my opinion, just buy Nades and vezins.”

Ragnarok- Mark: “Feeling a bit down personally, team morale is up but we have a lot to work on. We have been pushing utility more and more the better we get as a team. Buying utility over one or two vezins can mean a win or loss. With playspace being legalized in the league, our non-gunners have had to learn to keep up in other ways, especially for those who refuse to learn playspace (of which i respect), and utility has been a big factor in that.”

APAC:

7DS- McMuffinator: “Our team is feeling great, (and) we are looking forward to a rematch with Hybrid to take the top spot on the leaderboard again. On attack we will always buy utility in save rounds, as breaching foam is almost required to push most bomb sites. On defense we might buy trips or a grenade to try and get a rifle without taking a gunfight.”

Wacky Week Eight -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Week eight is here, and we’re at the point where teams have to start stepping up their game in preparation for the postseason. This current week that we’re in, week nine, is the last week where teams can challenge match other teams and bring on new players. By the time the week nine recap is out, the lock will already be in effect, so make sure you have your team sorted and ready before you get locked out of the action. Keep in mind that your team will have to have at least 6 games played this season to qualify for the postseason.

With all that said, why don’t we talk about some of the biggest rivalries in the league right now? NA’s prized matchup is no doubt F3 vs AESIR. Admittedly, I was a bit concerned for F3 when they revived themselves. F3 has had a rocky history when it comes to rosters, and my fear is that this new F3 would fall apart before they got any momentum like many other teams we saw over the course of the season. That said, they proved me very wrong, and demonstrated that they are here to stay. If you still have your doubts, I recommend watching their recent match against AESIR, which turned into another triple 6 finish! Sure, it didn’t count as a loss for AESIR, but that was the first time we saw their skill get truly tested in weeks. Though they were ultimately disappointed in the tie, I think Formula 3 took a huge step in the right direction with this match. They proved that AESIR can in fact bleed, and with more training and practice who knows? Maybe the only undefeated team in NA since week one won’t be able to boast that title anymore. We’ll find out in the coming weeks…

To quickly touch on the other two regions, Revolt-RVL associated itself with Eternity this week and rebranded to Immortality. They’re a promising team, and I’m curious to see where they go as we get into the final weeks of season 2. One thing’s for certain though: AESIR EU is the team to beat. With an undefeated record, and some of the best EU players on their roster, it seems that this team is looking to dominate their region just like their NA counterpart. I’ll be keeping a close eye on these teams moving forward, and I recommend you do the same as well, the EU scene has been fantastic to watch this season!

Finally, we have APAC, and the battle for first place. Hybrid still stands strong as the only undefeated APAC team to survive the whole season, but 7DS is quickly catching up. The season 1 champions aren’t keen on giving up their spot, but neither is Hybrid. It’s a fascinating conflict that ultimately I wish I could see more of, but time zones unfortunately put me in a spot where I can’t cast the APAC region. Regardless, it looks like it should be a fun battle, and I’m content watching it play out on the sideline. Good luck to both Hybrid and 7DS!

Wrapping up Week Eight:

It’s once again time to end the weekly recap, and what a week it has been! As we march forwards towards the postseason, there seems to be no end to the questions! Who will win the AESIR vs Formula 3 battle in NA? Will 7DS finally get their long-awaited rematch against Hybrid? Will AESIR EU continue to dominate their region just like their NA counterpart? Keep an eye out in the following weeks, as the competition is only just starting to heat up! Remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you next week!

VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 7
by Gibular_Bob |

Message from the VRML:

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Breachers VRML! Ranked is right around the corner (literally, it’s releasing in just a few short hours from now), and the season has progressed onward and ever-closer to our dramatic finales in the post season and VRMLCON 2024! Stay tuned to see standings recaps, roster reports, and opinions from our teams and casters!

Week Seven Standings:

Before we explore all the other action this week, let’s reintroduce our top teams in each region :

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Fusion

4th: Ignite

5th: RE.START

Europe (EU):

2nd: Revolt-RVL

3rd: ivi

4th: Ragnarok

5th: Cheeki Breachi

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: 7DS

3rd: Pavlov’s Dogs

The top four teams in the NA region hang on for yet another week with the only change being the reappearance of RE.START in the top 5. Ignite has done an excellent job staying competitive with the other top teams with an overall strong season so far. On the APAC front we bid a warm welcome back to season 1 APAC champions 7DS to the top 3, falling just short of Hybrid’s very dominant hold on the #1 APAC spot. Shifting attention over to the EU region, we can see a massive rebrand for FYR who recently partnered up with the undefeated NA titan, AESIR, to become AESIR EU! With an AESIR-Formula 3 rivalry looming on the horizon in NA, will we see a similar rivalry in the EU with AESIR EU and the recently formed Formula 3 EU?

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week seven match/matches?
  • What is some advice you would offer to new players starting their Breachers VRML careers?

NA:

AESIR- Plunge: “Feeling untouchable but being cautious of what teams are to come. Practice hard and you'll improve your skills and your knowledge of the game, setting you and your team up for success.”

Ignite- UnbrokenVerdict: “We are feeling great after week 7. To hold the 4th spot in NA overall is a privilege and we look forward to continuing to try to build off our games this season. Win or lose, I firmly believe I have a group of guys who have the capabilities to continue to always get better in one way or another. If I were to offer any advice to someone starting this game, I would say to be patient with yourself and continue getting your repetitions in this game. With repetitions, comes invaluable experience which in turn, helps build your game sense and IQ for the flow of the game.”

RE.START- ShimiMarui: “We're feeling pretty good after this week. We've fixed a lot of problems holding us back over the last week and a half and we are all ready to continue working on how we can further improve. For players new to Breachers VRML or just VRML in general, I would say not to rush. Don't burn yourself out in your first season. Take some time to learn the game thoroughly and find a team or group of players you enjoy playing with and being around. Have some fun with the game, the player skill will just come with time. There will be many many more seasons of VRML with Breachers and many other games, so tons of time to grow and enter those top ranks. At the end of the day, we're playing a video game on the internet, may as well have fun while doing it!

EU:

AESIR EU- GOOBLIN: “This week as a team has been very interesting. Firstly, of course, our matches (although we won) have 100% shown us that although we stand at number 1 in EU, we still have a lot to learn. Sunset Ravens definitely put up more of a fight than we expected, but we managed to pull through eventually, which we all feel amazing about. Secondly, besides the matches, this week (has) been quite a mental challenge for a couple of us. A lot of personal things IRL have happened that's affected how we all get along in and out of Breachers, and it's affected our gameplay so to speak. But it's all finished now, and we're planning on staying number 1 as long as we're together. There's no other advice I'd give other than never give up. As cliche as it sounds, it's true. I started playing VR competitively when I was 13 in Echo VR. Since then my life's changed forever. The people you meet along the way and the things you can learn, is really worth it in the long run. Take the time into learning more, progressing as a player and a person, and even if your team (when you find one) isn't necessarily the best, you can experience a lot more than just a match every week. It's truly worth every second, and it's helped me grow to be who I am today. Keep at it, there's no reason not to.”

Revolt-RVL- XavDaSlav: “We are still feeling confident, that will never change. Ragnarok had surprised us and played awfully well. However, we still drew. RVL is still undefeated in VRML. My main tip would be to keep playing. Everything improves when you keep playing, like aim, gamesense, and chemistry.”

Cheeki Breachi- Beemo: “We're feeling the same as ever - bitter and resentful. Not because of Breachers, just the status quo. The advice I would offer to new players would be to not take advice from members of CHBR.”

APAC:

7DS- McMuffinator: “As a team, we are feeling very confident. We're just looking ahead to post season and cleaning up mistakes on the new map. Some advice for new players: If you are struggling to improve, I highly suggest watching back recordings of your game and checking things like crosshair placement, if you made too much noise, if you were too slow reacting to sound or a team comm. Having somebody you know is better than you critiquing the little things in your gameplay helps a lot.”

Wild Week Seven -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Week seven is here and it certainly hasn’t been short of its drama! Big rebrands in EU, 7DS breaking back into the APAC top three, and an extensive roster report have given me a plethora of topics to talk about, but I want to focus on NA for a bit- specifically the inevitable matchup between Formula 3 and AESIR.

Both teams are by no means strangers to victory. They even faced each other recently in the NA finals for season 1,  but while AESIR has undergone a few but fair amount of roster changes, Formula 3 probably holds the record for the master team that has undergone some of the most significant roster shakeups in the entirety of the Breachers VRML. Seriously, we’ve seen their team lose some of their best players several times, only to bounce back shortly thereafter with seemingly even more ludicrous pickups. This current iteration holds their most stacked roster yet, in my opinion, with ex-pros from ASP3CT, Wicked, and Eternity. It feels like this team was specifically designed with beating AESIR in mind, and I certainly wish them luck with a task that no other NA team has accomplished yet this season: beat AESIR.

On the other side of the coin, however, we have that undefeated NA titan that has remained dominant since the preseason of this league. It’s undeniable that AESIR boasts a collection of some of the best players to ever play the game, and that’s evident when you look at their history- a team that, out of preseason, season 1, and now week seven into season 2, has only lost once in official matches. Could we finally see an end to this unstoppable reign? As I often say in these articles, only time will tell.

On a final note, I wish the players of Indomitable and Infinity luck with their future Breachers VRML endeavors- if they decide to stay. Both were teams with great potential that accomplished much while they played in this league, but both met a rather bitter and abrupt end. It feels unsatisfying to watch the two teams disband in the middle of the season, but such is the nature of the Breachers VRML sometimes. Either way, good luck to all of those players!

Wrapping up Week Seven:

With everything out of the way it looks like our time is up once again! With the ranked release coming out soon, season 2 still underway, and the approaching VRMLCON 2024 in July, there has never been a better time to get into Breachers! We here at the VRML wish you luck if the neverending grind for glory in ranked, and we hope you’ll continue to hone your skills and truly show what you’re made of in our seasonal gauntlets! Remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you next week!

VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 6
by Gibular_Bob |

Message from the VRML:

Welcome to week six of the Breachers VRML season 2! We hope you’ve all had a wonderful holiday break, and are ready for yet another action-packed week of Breachers action! Our teams have been busy too, with exciting matches that have changed around our standings, roster updates that have left us shocked, and opinions from our teams on how they feel now that we’re around the halfway point of the season. Keep reading for all the juicy details!

Week Six Standings:

Before we explore all the other action this week, let’s reintroduce our top teams in each region :

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Fusion

4th: Ignite

5th: Olympus

Europe (EU):

1st: Revolt-RVL

2nd: ivi

3rd: Sunset Ravens

4th: Ragnarok

5th: Cheeki Breachi

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: Pavlov’s Dogs

3rd: Legion Praetorian

It feels nostalgic to see Revolt-RVL at the top of their leaderboard once again. Once a powerful team that rebranded to Velocity Esports, Revolt found itself making re-entry after the Velocity team disbanded earlier in the season. They seem to be making quite a name for themselves now that they’re back! In the NA region, the top three teams have cemented their spots at the top of the leaderboard, with fourth and fith place changing teams once again. Eternity and Indomitable have been replaced by Ignite and the re-entering Olympus after a short stint out of the top 5. In the same way, APAC seems to have a solid top 2, with Hybrid and Pavlov’s Dogs not interested in letting anyone have a go at their spots, although Legion Praetorian has come back to the top 3, bumping out ¥oung Mafia. We’ll hear what these teams have to say in just a bit, but before we do that, we have to cover our roster changes!

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week six match/matches?
  • We're now around the halfway point of season two. What, if anything, does your team need to work on in order to be ready for the end of the season?

NA:

ASP3CT- iBlameMyAim: “Despite the challenges, we are holding strong at the number two position. Our only defeats have been at the hands of the formidable #1 seed, AESIR. We are in a good place, but it's evident that we must prioritize our mental fortitude and rediscover the joy in playing. As a team, we are united and resilient. Any setbacks, like last night's, are opportunities for growth, and the responsibility falls on me more than anyone else. Let's refocus, work on our mental game, and rediscover the joy in what we do."

Fusion- Luna: “We are happy with our continued progress but have a long way to go. Everything can always be improved. We have gotten a little better at a couple of the maps, but there is much to do.”

EU:

Revolt-RVL- XavDaSlav: “As I started this team only a few weeks ago we’ve only been active for 3 weeks, however we are feeling confident. Beating the season one champs and previous #1 team in the leaderboards, we have to be feeling confident. To add to this, we have been consistently competing with the top teams like ivi in private scrims. I think due to being a newer team the chemistry isn’t the best it could be, so that’s one thing we definitely have to work on before the finals, but I’m not worried about that as it’s the easiest fix. This team has amazing people and amazing players, (and) I’m sure we will be a contender for the top spots.”

ivi- Beaver: “We're feeling good after week 6. .COM gave us a run for our money and hard countered us. All things considered, ivi as a team need to be playing the game more. Our rivals 'FYR' recently became Aesir's sister team which was pretty interesting and unexpected. Either way we will be prepared for the end of the season and come out on top like we did in pre-season.”

Sunset Ravens- JediMilo: “Last week we were quite burned out and did pretty badly in our match, but after a break we are definitely back up to scratch. I’d suggest we just need to work on comms and unnecessary yapping.”

Ragnarok- Mark: “Everyone at Ragnarok has gotten a confidence boost after our time away from the very top teams in the league. This allowed us to step back and take a look at what we have to improve on, and why we would be losing rounds to a team we didn't see as being much better than us. Ragnarok has their eyes set on perfecting our attack synergy for the upcoming weeks.”

APAC:

Legion Praetorian- Gen0cyde: “Legion is feeling strong halfway through the season. We are a team that does not focus on winning or being highly competitive, we just want to have fun. Legion likes to improve on our strategies and timing. We have noticed that our push timing from two flanks is not in sync. That is what we will be working on this week. Looking forward to next week of VRML.”

Halfway Point Checkpoint -Opinion by Gibular_Bob

As we end off week six and begin week seven, we’re officially hitting that halfway point in season 2. If new teams want to participate in the postseason, they’ll need to get started now and play nearly every single week (or use some challenge matches) to qualify for the challenger cup and finals. Either way, I think it’s important at this point in the game to take a step back and look at the overall current state of things. One of the primary reasons why I brought up question 2 in the interviews this week was because I think all teams should regularly check on their own progress as well, not just the progress of other teams.

I’ve been playing Breachers VR for almost a whole year now, and comparing my gameplay now to back when I started, there is a staggering difference. Not saying that I’m the best player in the league, but I’ve made quite a few strides in the way I think and act when playing the game. It’s not just about accuracy- my entire thought process and approach to rounds has also changed as well.

And this is where I implore you and your teams to also do the same: examine your gameplay at the start of the season and figure out what areas you're strong in, and what areas need improvement. Self-reflection is an important step in climbing the ladder, and being able to acknowledge your own mistakes will make you more receptive to fixing those mistakes. The reason why it’s great to do it during the halfway point, is that there’s an entire second half of the season for you to improve and build upon your already solid foundation. With the stakes getting higher each week, correcting even small mistakes now could make a massive difference in the future! I wish you all luck in the second half of the season!

Wrapping up Week Six:

Well, it looks like we’re once again out of time! The passing of week six marks the beginning of a turning point in the Breachers VRML. From here on out, the competition will be fierce, and everyone is looking for their shot at the top. Will our top teams be able to maintain their spots, or will they fall just short of the finish line? We’ll find out in the second half of the season! Remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you next week!

VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 5
by Gibular_Bob |

Message from the VRML:

Greetings once again from the Breachers VRML! Week five has not only been a big and exciting week for our teams, but also the entirety of Breachers as well! With the details of ranked revealed, and the release date right around the corner, we find ourselves getting ever closer to this exciting and long-awaited era of Breachers! Stay tuned to see our standings, roster reports, and opinions from our teams and casters!

Week Five Standings:

Before we explore all the other action this week, let’s review what the standings are in each region:

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Fusion

4th: Eternity

5th: Indomitable

Europe (EU):

1st: Sunset Ravens

2nd: ivi

3rd: Ragnarok

4th: French Resistance

5th: .COM

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: Pavlov’s Dogs

3rd: ¥oung Mafia

With week five under our belts, we’re looking at a very solid lineup in the top five of each region. Most notably, ivi’s loss to FYR this week ended their hopes of being undefeated for the remainder of the season. This only leaves two other teams, Hybrid and AESIR, who have remained undefeated since the start of the season. The pressure only continues to mount as we move closer and closer to the postseason. Keep an eye on these top teams in the coming weeks, as they may very well be contenders for VRMLCON 2024 later in the year…

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week five match/matches?
  • Triangle Factory will have a ranked showcase soon, what is something you're hoping to see in it?

(Note that the teams were asked these questions before the podcast)

NA:

AESIR- Red: “I'm feeling pretty good about the first 5 weeks, a 5-0 start is always a good start to the season. I can't wait for competitive ranked to come out. I'm hoping to see some old faces come back from breaks for that, and I can't wait for those new gun skins we saw in the announcement post to come out!

EU:

Sunset Ravens- JediMilo: “We’re feeling great as a team and excited for what the rest of the future can bring! (I’m) hoping to finally know the release date for ranked so that I can get my hands on it soon!

Ragnarok- Mark: “Ragnarok has faced a lot of strong teams the last 4 weeks for our premiere into the Scene. Week 5 was a great refresher to not be facing those big names. Granting us two wins. Everyone in the team is hoping to see a release date for the Competitive update along with any additional information of balance changes coming with the ranked mode. Wish every team in the EU the best of luck with week 6!”

APAC:

¥oung Mafia- MARSH: “My team is finally getting into the swing of things after a lot of trial and error, but cultural differences between Japan and Australia make it difficult to match (the) match times, so I'd be happy to see more Japanese and Korean teams. I expect that the new ranked competition will implement gun skins and player banners based on the rank a player has reached! I wish breachers more excitement in the future!”

It’s Finally (Almost) Here! -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

Today was the day that it seemed like we waited an Eternity (pun intended) for; Triangle Factory finally released details on the ranked mode for Breaches nearly an entire year after the game launched, and it had pretty much everything you could ask for. New gun skins, more ways to unlock credits, ties, the ability to remove bots from custom matches, the list goes on and on. The full podcast will be released again on Wednesday if you want to see it for yourself (you should by the way, Wesley and Orcolom were great hosts), but my opinion today will cover some of the biggest takeaways from the deep dive, and my thoughts on them:

Ranked mode is obviously going to be the first point on the list. It really feels like a dream to finally see how everything will work. I never thought I would be as excited as I was to hear that there will be tiebreakers in ranked, but here we are! Simply put, this mode is something that Breachers has needed for quite some time: a mode where people can sink hundreds, even thousands of hours into being the best, and not just for credits or skins, but for the glory of being in the top fifty of the entire world! Ranked will provide an experience that will test every player’s abilities to work well not only as an individual, but as a team- something that Breachers has always been about! On top of this, Triangle Factory’s consideration of adding Easy Anti-Cheat would help solve a major issue that’s been plaguing both Breachers and the Breachers VRML for some time now. Who knows? If this anti-cheat is successful, we may also be able to get rid of the recording mandate! No promises though *wink*.

Another point I wanted to touch on was the ability to remove bots from custom games. This is a quality of life feature that I think Breachers has needed for a very long time now. Don’t get me wrong- I love the bots and their tendencies to instantly flick onto my head with their laser Cadillos, but their forced presence in custom games has removed the ability to do true 1v1s or any other kind of private matches, which thrive in highly competitive games like this. And hey, if you ever miss your favorite bots, you can always find them on public servers!

Lastly, I wanted to touch down on how thankful I am that Triangle Factory waited and delayed it all this time so they could give us the presentation they did today. The implementation of ranked carries a lot of weight on the overall health of Breachers. If they released ranked in a messy/buggy state, I’m of the opinion that it could outright kill the game entirely. This is why I’m so thankful they delayed everything. A lot of players got pretty much everything they were asking for, and that likely wouldn’t have happened had Triangle Factory rushed it out. Personally, I think it was well worth the wait- even if it did feel like forever at some points!

Wrapping up Week Five:

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost half of the way through season 2! It feels like it was just yesterday when teams were discussing what they did during their offseasons! Nonetheless, the competition continues to ramp up for all of our teams with the window of opportunity to reach the top growing smaller and smaller with each passing week! We wish all of our teams good luck and Happy Holidays over the weekend! Remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you next week for more exciting Breachers VRML news!

VRML Weekly Briefing - Season 2 Week 4
by Frosty |

Message from the VRML:

Welcome to week four of the Breachers VRML Season 2! The season is still young, and week four wasted no time at all giving us intense battles and dramatic roster changes. From a top EU team disbanding, to one of the craziest roster poaches of the season so far, week four has once again proven that there is never a dull moment in Breachers VRML! Stay tuned to see a recap of the standings, the roster report, and opinions from the teams and casters!

Week Four Standings:

Before we delve into the rest of the action, let’s remind ourselves of the top teams in each region:

North America (NA):

1st: AESIR

2nd: ASP3CT

3rd: Eternity

4th: Rebel

5th: RE.START

Europe (EU):

1st: ivi

2nd: French Resistance

3rd: Sunset Ravens

4th: Nyffin

5th: Cheeki Breachi

Asia/Oceania (APAC):

1st: Hybrid

2nd: Pavlov’s Dogs

3rd: Legion Praetorian

AESIR, ASP3CT, and Eternity: three of the strongest NA teams once again find their way to the top of their region, with Rebel and RE.START in hot pursuit. EU also saw quite a few changes this week, with ivi taking the number one spot after a sudden Nexus disband. French Resistance moved up, and CHBR made entry into the top five EU teams once again. The APAC front also saw a change in their third place team, with IMOOGI falling out of the top three and being replaced by Legion Praetorian. What’s interesting is that AESIR, ivi, and Hybrid remain the only undefeated teams that have played every single week in their respective regions. How long will their streaks last? We’ll find out in the coming weeks!

From the Teams:

This week, we’ve gone ahead and asked the top teams in each region the following questions:

  • How are you feeling as a team after your week three match/matches?
  • In your opinion, what is the most underrated weapon, gadget, or strategy in competitive Breachers?

NA:

ASP3CT- iBlameMyAim: “We are feeling extremely good and confident after our 2 matches this week vs Eternity and Olympus. More than happy to come away with 2 wins. Easily the most underrated weapon is the canutt. With the right player it’s a deadly weapon. It’s so deadly in tight corners or connector hallways, playing close on walls. Gadget is an incen. Incen can block off rotations or block defenders from advancing on you while you plant. A lot of these maps have been played so many times that there aren't too many unique strategies. You may see a twist here and there on some stuff. I think it’s the teamwork and communication you have with the team in game during the round that sets you apart strategically.”

Rebel- baymask: “Speaking for the whole team, we're feeling confident after playing the 4 matches this week. The loss against eternity made us realize that we still have a lot to improve on, and (we) took it as a sign to step up our game. Smokes for sure. They provide cover to not only your teammates, but they're a great form of rotation when you're in a jam. Smokes can also be useful to hide unexpected grenades. Many lower tier teams should start using them if they want to see better results in both attacking and defense rounds.”

RE.START- ShimiMarui: “We're always working to improve and work on our plays, teamwork, and comms. This week highlighted a lot of areas we can work on and continue to improve as a team. We're here (to) play and we're here to win. Domin' Omen. It's a cheap SMG that if used right can take multiple Vezin players. Incens are fire too. Delaying a retake with an incendiary can make or break a successful defuse sometimes.”

EU:

ivi- Beaver: “Same as last week, we're feeling great. We're sad that Nexus disbanded considering the shape up EU was having, but oh well. Sunset Ravens were surprisingly better from when we played them in scrims, so I'll be interested to see how they hold up vs the other teams. In my opinion, the viper is (the) most underrated weapon. It can contest the Vezin mid-close range almost every time, but it just isn't the same as pre nerf omen (rip).”

French Resistance- Florentin: “After our match of week four we feel extremely good, showing the Europeans that yes, the French are present in the competition, and we are ready for victory. Our favorite strategy is on skyscraper. The radio attack that we staged during the playoff against CHBR (where) we attack with 5 (players) in radio. It's always a pleasure to do it!

Sunset Ravens- JediMilo: “Pretty confident in our ability to play near the top, and hopefully going to continue doing well. Viper (is) definitely underrated. One of our teammates loves it, and uses it occasionally to great success. Shoutout to Mack8002.”

Cheeki Breachi- Beemo: “We're feeling grouchy and irritable - but that's just normal, nothing related to the matches. (An) underrated Strat is to let them win 0-7 so the game is over faster.”

I Lied -Opinion by Gibular_Bob:

I know, I know. I promised to talk about something other than rosters last week, but if there’s one thing I’m quickly learning as I write these articles, it’s that there’s no shortage of team drama. Roster report once again took up a ton of space, and I just can’t help but talk about some of the biggest changes that occurred this week.

If I had to pick a place to start, I reckon it would be with the Nexus disband. This is something I did not think I would see so early in the season, and yet here we are! One of the most promising EU teams disbands, leaving a void in the top EU scene. They were actually listed as #1 for EU on the website, but I decided to omit them as they have lost nearly all of their players. It’s a heartbreaking end to a team I thought had a lot of potential. I wish them all the best in their next steps.

In other news: Formula 3, a team that is no stranger to turning heads and creating rivals, found another adversary in the form of ASP3CT. Out of nowhere (and at 4:00 in the morning), F3 nabs Fly, ItzzzHERO, and potentially Old Gravy as well. Granted, HERO was on Eternity, but F3 taking two ASP3CT players led to some… disputes, to say the least. Either way, A3 and F3 are looking to settle their disputes over a game of Breachers, and I’m eagerly awaiting the week when I see those two teams pitted against each other in the matchups.

On a quick side note, we’re approaching the halfway point of the season, and that means that the opportunity for new teams to qualify for the post season is thinning. Teams must be active for at least half of the regular season, so if you’re looking to qualify for the post season (and go to VRMLCON 2024 for free as an NA finalist), make sure you form your team soon!

Wrapping up Week Four:

While we’d love to talk about everything that happened in week four, it looks like our time is up once again. As the season progresses, the teams are finding their matchups only getting tougher, and with more on the line each week, the pressure continues to mount for the top spot in each region. Either way, the best is still yet to come! Always remember to buy breaching foam, and we’ll see you next week!
